A Friday Pot Lock

A friend of mine asked me to go out with her and her husband last Friday. They were invited to a pot lock hosted by the their friends who are doctors. The party included families of ministers including the family of the doctors. There was food, music, chatting and swimming at the pool for the little kids.

I said yes to the invitation because my friend who invited me wanted a sidekick. LOL! She's a young wife to a minister at Church and she's still adjusting to being friends with older and kind of richer people. She's just a simple girl and is still learning how to mingle with older and quite famous people at Church. Although she knows that sometime soon she had to.

Anyway, so there we were at the beautiful house. My friend and I chatted and laughed at times while waiting for lunch to be served. I was already feeling exhausted since I had work the previous night. I read some magazines on the table. Although the hosts are doctors, I didn't see any health magazines and even best cigar magazine on the rack. I just saw bunch of beauty magazines and browsed a little bit. When my friend and I got bored, we watched a movie on the home theater.

It was really a beautiful house. I get a bit dreamy when I was there. The hosts were kind enough to share their home with the ministers at church instead of going somewhere else by themselves and enjoy the long weekend.

I feel really exhausted when I got home but it was a good party. I'm glad I joined my friend and had a really wonderful time.

Not Gonna Be A Bum All Day

I feel so lazy today. I haven't even started cleaning up my room and it's almost 12 noon. What a bum!

Geez! Shake it off, will I please? LOL! I just did karaoke by myself a few minutes ago after eating breakfast. Err, actually that's 3 or 4 hours earlier. And I'm still in front of my laptop listening/playing to different kinds of songs.

Okay, I know I have no choice but do the chores I need to do later. Just give me an hour or two to enjoy my favorite songs and finish some tasks online. I'd be more productive later. No one else is going to do the chores but myself, anway. :D

Happy Monday!

The Ankle Still Hurts A Bit

My right ankle still hurt a little especially if I stand on it incorrectly. And I felt a little bit of pain when I wore my heels yesterday.  To those who haven't read my previous post, I had an accident when I was on my way down the train station last Tuesday. I was in a hurry to get to the train because I don't wanna be late for work. I twisted my ankle but managed to stand and walk to the train despite the pain. I just put cold compress on the about-to-be-swelling ankle and didn't take any pain relievers. Nor did I had it checked by a  doctor or therapist.

I'm beginning to worry. Should I now have it check by a physical therapist? Or should I just purchase a lynco orthotics? I heard it can help determine the cause of foot pain. It can also give relief to sore feet. I don't have time to go to the doctor anymore this week. My schedule is crazy and I have a lot of commitments this week. Sigh. I think I'd resort to the latter option.

I hope it heals by itself though. LOL!

Breathed A Sigh Of Relief

When DST (Daylight Saving Time) began last week, I was given a new schedule at work. It is my dreaded schedule, actually. It's 2 hours earlier than my previous shift - 9:00pm til 6:00am. It sucks!

Here are some of the reasons why I don't like this schedule:

  1. It's rush hour. You know how it is when it's rush hour here in Metro Manila. I can't ride the bus. Even one of those "killer bus". Hehe. The ordinary bus I chose as my mode of transportation during my late shift because it brings me to the office even if I have to get there in like 10 minutes. :D It's very seldom that there was traffic in EDSA on my previous shift. I can't enjoy the bus ride anymore or else I'll get stuck in traffic and won't get to work on time. So I have to endure running or brisk walking from my house to the MRT station and get sandwiched inside the train because it's too crowded. It's time for most of the commuters here in Metro Manila to go home from work.
  2. I always look like I ran a mile when I get to the office. Not that I smell unpleasant. I just don't like the sweaty feeling first thing at work. It really makes me uneasy.
  3. I can't perform some of my duties at Church before going work. Not like what I do on my previous shift. I was able to join bible studies, weekly meetings with co-officers and visit some church mates. I can even hang out with friends at Church for an hour or two sometimes. But I wasn't able to do all these since last week. Sigh.
  4. I can't go on with some chores after my work. Banks, grocery stores and most of the establishments where I have to pay my bills at are still closed at 6 o'clock in the morning. So I have to go home first and wait for 9:00 am to strike before I can start doing some personal chores. Sometimes I get lazy and forget about doing them because when I get to my pad, all I wanted was to be either in front of the t.v. and watch my favorite shows or make updates online (Facebook and Blogs). Or doze off to la-la-land. :)
I got a mild sprain on my right ankle right now. I was in a hurry to get to the train last night that I accidentally fell from the last 3 steps of the stairs and twisted my ankle. It only hurts a little bit now since I' put cold compress on it during my shift at the office. I just hope it won't swell. I remember my colleague telling me last night that my schedule is going to kill me. LOL!

Well guess what? My boss brought a good news for me today. :D I think it's an answered prayer. I won't be in this shift for long! Yehey! I'll be on a 10pm schedule very soon!

And here's what's going to happen on my 10pm schedule:
  1. I won't have to endure the crowded MRT. I can have the option to ride the bus going to work.
  2. I won't be all sweaty when I get to the office.
  3. I can then perform my duties at Church.
  4. And, lastly, I can go to the bank, pay my bills and do my groceries after work.

How's that for a good news? :D

I can now breathe the sigh of relief! Hah! Thank You, Lord!

Nanay's Eccentric Birthday Celebration

Happy birthday my Dear Nanay... :) We may have a lot of differences but that won't change the mother-daughter bond that we have. You're always gonna be the voice inside my head. Although sometimes that voice becomes irritating (LOL!) but it's okay. I know you just worry about your stubborn daughter and always want the best for me. Someday I'll make you proud of me! I love u and I miss u... mwaahhh!

Yesterday was my Mother's birthday. She just turned 67 years old. I somehow dread this day. Not I'm not happy about my Mom ageing gracefully. I just worry about her not eligible for my company's health card anymore. She's my only dependent and the health card was really a great help to us. Anyway, I didn't tell her about it because I know that she's just gonna get worried.

I was trying to be positive when I called her up and spoke to her over the phone early yesterday. I greeted her a Happy Birthday! And asked what she was planning to do for the day. I was expecting she's going to unwind and spend time with my brother and her grandson Brandon and maybe go to the beach. But I was wrong. What she had in mind was go to the court and file a complaint against one of our neighbors in GenSan. Seriously? That's her eccentric way of celebrating her birthday. Sigh. What an exciting thing to do on your birthday, Mom. And guess what? No matter how I persuade her to do something positive and spend a non-stressful birthday, my brother told me that she still went to GenSan and did what she had in mind.

Anyway, I can't change my Mom, that's a fact. But if I was there, I might have changed her mind. We might have gone to the beach, bought her a birthday cake and ask her to make a wish or two. Well, I wasn't there so... :-/

Happy birthday, Nanay! I love you no matter what! :D

The Best Part Of My Vacay Is With Kuerdas Band

I very seldom go back to my hometown that's why whenever I'm there, I make the most of my stay. I spend a lot of time with my family, relatives and some of my friends. There are still a lot of my friends that I haven't spent time with but I know that I'd be able to hang out with them on my next vacations. Sigh. Vacations are really quite short, you know. First thing you're having a great time and the next thing you knew, you have to catch your flight back to where you're living a life working so hard and save some money for your next homecoming. I always can't wait for my next vacation.

The best part of my vacation is always spending time with my previous bandmates - the Kuerdas Band. They have become the most famous band in GenSan playing cool Reggae music in town. And I'm just glad that whenever I watch their gig, they always allow me to sing some songs with them on stage. And I like it very much although we play the old songs that we used to playback when I was part of the band. I still love singing them and we always were able to play the songs without practice. LOL!

My cousin Jayson, the band leader, told me his plan about turning a part of his house into a recording studio. I really think it's cool! Not only will they have a better place to practice their songs, they can even record it professionally. :) He said he's also planning to make a profit out of the studio, of course. Aspiring bands in GenSan and other musicians can rent the place for hours and do their rehearsals there. This is actually something that my cousin has long been planning to do. And it's about to come true. He still have a lot of recording equipment to invest in including a shop maschine mikro so he can further enhance the music that he can create in that studio.

I'm really happy seeing my former bandmates pursue their passion. I am so proud of them to say the least. Hopefully on my next homecoming, I'd be able to set foot in that music studio and jam with the band. And of course, spend the best time of my vacay once again! :)

Mom's Voice Inside My Head Lately

I'm thinking about working overseas. My mom has been the voice inside my head lately. Whenever we talk over the phone, she never cease to make me feel like I haven't made anything of myself in my 7 years of working here in Manila. She always ask me what I've done with my money. Why haven't I invested into something just like what she have done with her money when she was young. Sigh. Why can't she just accept the fact that I can't be like her.

Anyway, so I'm thinking about working abroad. The question is where? I haven't even checked online for any job offers to workers overseas. I really don't want to but I guess that's the only way that I can make my mom happy. Honestly I'm scared of working abroad. It's miles away from everybody I know. It will take a lot of courage before I'd be able to finally decide on what to do with my life. I'd just be working there for maybe 2 or 3 years. That wouldn't be very long anyway. And who knows I'd be able to afford to invest on businesses. Maybe purchase an industrial milling machine that we can use in the province or buy pieces of lands and build apartments or buildings of some sort.

There's are a lot of opportunities out there. I know that. I just hope I can decide as soon as possible because my mom is right. I'm not getting any younger anymore and have to start making big decisions that will make my future life better. Way to go, Mom. You're always going to be inside my head.

Silver Linings Playbook - Review

Silver Lining - a metaphor for optimism according to Wikipedia.

I never heard of this idiom until I watched the movie Silver Linings Playbook which made Jennifer Lawrence win the Oscar's Best Actress award. Of course, her fall on the stage because of the dress made her even more famous. It made a lot of people talk about her all the more. She's funny and "REAL". Some may say that she's a bit of a clumsy lady but I like her.

The movie starred two emotionally disturbed individuals. One has a bipolar disorder - Pat Solitano Jr. (Bradley Cooper) that after being released from the mental institution has become very focused and positive about winning his wife back. Then he met the widowed and depressed Tiffany Maxwell (Jennifer Lawrence) who made him realize that life sometimes don't go according to his plans. Amidst their differences and the problems that they both have on their own emotionally, that silver lining made it all possible for them to realize that they're meant for each other.

"This is what I believe to be true. You have to do everything you can. And if you stayed positive you had a shot at a silver lining." - my favorite line on the movie. :)

It's a different kind of romantic comedy. It's crazy but really fun to watch. Both Bradley and Jennifer did great on the characters they played. Here's the trailer:

Better watch the movie and have fun! :)

You're Doing A Great Job Brother Dear!

I am very proud of my younger brother, Florante, being the one taking care of his son. He's a Registered Nurse but he chose to stay at home and take care of my nephew Brandon who was diagnosed with autism about a couple of years ago.

My brother's wife was the first one given the opportunity to work overseas, so no matter how difficult it was, she has to leave her loved ones and be the one to work for the family.

My brother still wanted to practice his profession but he very well knew that his son needed his full attention. I bet he's even thankful that his opportunity to work abroad hasn't come yet because he still have the time to raise his child who have special needs. Although our Brandon is functional and very smart, he still needed the attention that a parent can provide.

But just in case my brother gets the job abroad, I really hope that he will leave Brandon under my care. I know it wouldn't be easy but I'll do everything I can to do the best parenting for my nephew. I might consider getting a maid and make sure that a personal background check will be performed before hiring someone. Just so I will feel comfortable leaving my nephew under someone else's care whenever I leave for work at nights. It wouldn't be easy but I'll see what I can do. Anyway, this is just one the plans we have in mind.

Meanwhile, since the opportunity for my brother hasn't arrived yet, he has all the time to take very good care of my nephew. I know he's doing the best he can and I'm so proud because he's doing a great job as a father to Brandon.

Brandon And The Takoyaki Story

Takoyaki is one of my favorite snacks here in Manila. It's a ball-shaped Japanese food made of wheat flour filled with some veggies, tempura scraps and I-don't-really-know-what-else! LOL! But they're really yummy!
The silly yet handsome Brandon

When I went home in the province, I had my nephew (the famous Brandon in this blog) have a taste of it. Well guess what? He liked it too! To think that that silly boy, like all the other kids, don't like veggies that much! Haha!

The following night, I was chatting with my Mom and Brandon was all over me, talking and playing with my feet at the same time. I just got distracted when he said, "Tita Ayena, come on! Let's buy TAKO-EWW", with his endearing English accent. I said,"What? What TAKO-EWW are you saying?", I really couldn't figure out until he said it again and again. LOL! I was already laughing when I said," It's TAKOYAKI baby!". His reply made me laugh some more because he ended it with,"Okay. TAKOWAKI!".

A Gift Idea For My Mom's Birthday

My Mom's birthday is fast approaching. She's turning 67 years old this coming March 13. The good thing this year is that her birthday will not fall on a Friday. She's scared of celebrating her natal day outside her home whenever it's "Friday the 13th". Would you believe she's not superstitious? :D

Anyway, I still don't have an idea of what gift to give to her on her special day. I've already given her a microwave oven that she wanted last December which she doesn't even know how to operate. I hope it's still working until now. I don't have time to visit the malls yet because of my busy schedule but thankfully I got Coupon Chief coupon codes that I can use to purchase online. I'm thinking about getting her something from Brylane Home. I know how much she'd appreciate some home appliances. If I'd give her a jewelry of some sort, she'd just tell me she still have a lot of them in her jewelry box. LOL! I know for sure I can buy something that she will really like.

I live faraway from home. It's very seldom that I celebrate my Mother's birthday with her. I feel bad that it's going to be the same this year since I don't have enough savings to pay for my plane ride. Although I know the best gift I can give her is to be present on her special day.

Well I know for sure that my Mom will understand. Hopefully my phone call on March 13 will be enough for her and that she gets her presents on time.

Denied Globe Phone Plan Application

What a day to end February. I got denied for a Globe Phone Postpaid Plan. Sigh.

I was almost excited to own a Samsung Galaxy Note II. I thought it would be that easy to apply and get approved. I accomplished all the requirements as soon as I can but got the unexpected result. Maybe, it really is not time for me to own one yet. I will have one of those nice phones not too long from now, I promise! :D

Hey, it's Friday! And it's the first day of March! I won't let that declined Globe Plan application ruin my day! There are a lot more to be happy and thankful about. :)
