An Award And A Celebration! :D

We had an activity at Church last Sunday. It was an exhausting day but I really enjoyed it. It was our monthly gathering of the single members of the Church in our locale. There was a talk about Stress Management. I've learned a lot from it.

What surprised me was when during the awarding, our group (Purok 1) where I am leading right now won the Most Active (Pinakamasiglang Purok) for the month of March! I was really happy because all my sacrifices paid off. By the help of the Almighty, I was able to make some of the church members from my Purok participate on Church activities. I hope we win the same award next month!

Me and my friends from Purok 1 celebrated after the gathering. We bonded and made plans. And did a lot of picture taking! LOL! Here are some of the happy moments! :D

Thank you, Lord for all the blessings! Giving You back all the glory and honor, Amen.

Senti Mode...

I was browsing pictures of friends on a social networking site. I have noticed that most of them are happily married. Some have cute little kids. Some high school friends end up married to each other. How cute, isn't it? Not that I envy them but sometimes browsing through those photos makes me wonder when I'd be able to settle down, meet the love of my life and have kids of my own. I'm not getting any younger anymore yet I don't even have a boyfriend! LOL!

Maybe I'm a bit of a choosy! Or maybe the guy and I just don't have the chemistry. I'm not really into physical attributes (maybe I am! LOL!). Even if the guy needed best hair loss treatment, I wouldn't mind as long as he can make me laugh and make me feel special. Geez! I'm being cheesy!

What's ironic is, most of the time, being single doesn't bother me at all. I like my "alone-ness". It's just peaceful, you know. Or I'm just being selfish. Or maybe I don't want to get hurt or have wrong expectations. Yeah, I'm a coward, I guess. I just don't want my heart to be broken again and again. Sigh.

A Programmer Friend

One of my friends at Church has been complaining about his work as a Programmer. It's his new job. He was hired a few weeks back. He's got weird working hours. They are even asked to be at work from 9 o'clock in the morning until 6 o'clock the next day. Geez! I wouldn't last long in a company that's going to give me that much of a workload! He's wanted the experience as a Programmer that's why he can't just quit. He said he'll just wait until he gets regularized so he can get the experience as a Programmer. After that, he's going to be on his own. I told him about blogging and he's quite interested. He can even create his own website layout or get paid by creating other bloggers' site or executive dashboard. If he stays a bit longer in the company, he'll be able to learn a lot about programming per se.

Well good luck to my friend. I hope he'd be able to succeed in being a computer programmer. :D

Cool And Windy Weather, Love It! :D

The weather has been cool lately. It wasn't raining but it's so windy outside. Not typical for this month. According to the weather forecast by PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration), it's going to be cloudy and windy here in Luzon.

It doesn't feel like summer is fast approaching. I like this kind of weather, though. Not warm yet not too cold and not even rainy. Just cool and windy weather.

I better get some sleep now and take advantage of this climate.

Happy Friday everyone! :D

Buying Dresses For Work And Church

Our company requires us to be in business casual wear for four days a week. I was a bit worried because on my previous company, I only get to wear business casual twice a week. I thought I didn't have enough outfit to suffice for my office wear. I was surprised when I checked my closet, I have Church dresses that I can use for the business casual days! Although I still have to buy some clothes so I won't be wearing them every week. :D

I just realize that wearing business casual outfits makes me feel professional. Especially if it's worn neatly. It makes me feel good about myself when I'm at work. Even with the boys, if they wear the long sleeved polo with neckties on and neatly ironed slacks, they looked very manly! :D I wonder if some of them get their stuffs online like from rocawear. They have a lot of nice options for sure!

One of the things I wanted to do next week is to buy some more dresses. It's like "killing two birds with one stone". Not only will I get to wear the dress esat work, I can also wear them during Church service! I'm excited to shop! :D

Post Birthday Celebration For Ate Carylle

Buttered shrimp, baked tahong, sinigang sa miso and Italian spaghetti were the delicacies that my friends and I indulged in yesterday!

It was a post birthday celebration of Ate Carylle, a friend of mine from the previous work. They invited me to celebrate with them. I'm glad I didn't think twice. Aside from wanting to get reunited with them and play with Baby Lajon, I also wanted to have a taste of the food that they prepared! :D

I really had fun and I was so full when I left the house! I'm glad to see my friends again! :D

Happy birthday Ate Carylle! Mwah!

Happy Birthday Nanay!

To my beloved Mother dear,

Thank you for bringing me to this beautiful world. Thank you for always being the voice in my head that keeps telling me to always be wise. Words are not enough to express how grateful I am to have you as my Mom. You're not perfect but I realized you're the best. I'm sorry if I haven't been a good daughter in the past. I'm still trying to make it up to you.

I hope for you to be happy and forget about the pain that you had in the past. If only I have the will to make you feel totally happy. I love you, Nay. I want you to know that I'm proud to be your daughter.

Happy birthday to the coolest Nanay in the world!

The Story Of My Name

ALLENA. That's my name! :D

My mom told me that she got that name from one of the bills she saw when she was paying her electric bill. She thought it's a nice name for a baby girl.

I searched for the meaning of my name at Google and I found this:

Allena \a-lle-na\ as a girl's name is of Old German origin, and the meaning of Allena is "precious".

So I'm precious! :D I like the meaning of my name. I hope my mom knew this though.

Anyway, my real name really didn't matter to me when I was in my toddler years because the only name I know at that time was my very unique, very Filipino sounding name - TIBANG (It's a Tee with a Bang! LOL!). Not even close to my real name, right? It's my Mom's naughty idea, as usual. She gave my brother, Aleksander Remus, a nickname "TIBO". In Filipino dialect, it means "lesbian". Primitivo was the name that our Dad wanted for my big brother. My mom didn't like it so she changed it to Aleksander Remus but she retained the nickname. So when I came out to the world, I have to share with my brother's humiliation by having that nickname. :D

When I went to pre-school, it's when I learned about my beautiful name. Everyone has been calling me ALLENA and I quite liked it. But eventually, my classmates knew about my nickname so later my classmates and friends started calling me by my nickname until I went to college.

Most of the people I get acquainted with get puzzled when they learn about my real name and why I have the nickname Tibang. I really don't elaborate much because it's quite a long story. I just ask them to get used to whichever name they're comfortable with. I really don't mind.

My name evolved to Ally or Alley when I became a call center agent. I have to have an American sounding name since I'll be talking to American clients over the phone. By this time, my nickname is very seldom heard of. The only time I hear my nickname is when I'm around my family, relatives and old friends.

I love all my names. It just amazes me that even names evolve.

How about you? What's the story of your name?

Just Watched The Oscars Academy Awards 2011

I just finished watching ABS-CBN's airing of The Oscars Academy Awards Night. While watching, I realized that there are a lot of new movies that I haven't watched yet. Sigh. I really don't have time to see a movie lately.

I know it's a bit late for me to post this but here are the 2011 Oscars Winners:

Best Picture - The King's Speech

Best Actor - Colin Firth (The King's Speech)

Best Actress - Natalie Portman (Black Swan)

Best Supporting Actor - Christian Bale (The Fighter)

Best Supporting Actress - Melissa Leo (The Fighter)

Best Director - Tom Hooper (The King's Speech)

Anne Hathaway and James Franco did a great job on hosting the show. Anne is just ever gorgeous and flaunted a lot of beautiful gowns during the awards night.

I hope to be able to watch some of the movies that won awards from the Oscars 2011.

Flight Booked For Palawan Trip! :D

Michelle, Jon, a couple of friends and myself are going to Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan on July 1 of this year! We already booked our flights with an airline carrier here in the Philippines when they offered discounted airfare! I was glad Michelle and Raquel thought about me when they booked the tickets!

I still have 4 months to prepare for that get-away. I'm very excited, though! At long last, I'd be able to bond with them once again! I hope everything will go smoothly as planned or I better check out a travelers insurance review so we can choose what insurance is best for travelers like us! I bet this is just the beginning of many travels. There will be more to come after this July trip! :D

Dear Brother's Plan...

My brother had talked to me once about grabbing any opportunity, whatever job he'd be able to qualify for, as long he can work overseas. Even if he's a nursing graduate, he told me that he will work as a factory worker as long as he'd get a better pay. Although I wanted my brother to get a job, I don't want him to be working in a factory abroad especially if the company manufactures products that could be hazardous to health. It would be very difficult for us to hire a lawyer if ever he suffers from an illness resulting from asbestos or any chemical related diseases. I wouldn't want my brother to end up going home paralyzed or whatever.

My brother is still jobless right now and is helping his father-in-law recuperate from mild stroke. As soon as his father-in-law is able, my brother will go back to finding a job to support for his family. I hope he have forgotten about applying as a factory worker abroad, though.

Sleep Like A Child On A Rainy Saturday

After work today, I just did my laundry and finished cleaning up my room. I basically slept all day this rainy Saturday. If not for our Church activity, which we call Panata (a week-long prayer) for our Holy Supper this coming week, I would be sleeping all night as well. :D

The cool weather lately has been very helpful to me because I'm able to get enough sleep. I feel like I sleep like a child! :D

Back to my slumber now with this song playing - Sleep Like A Child by Joss Stone...

Goodnight everyone!

Talking About Fashion

Accessories like bracelets and necklaces adds color and style to an outfit. Whenever women like me dress up, we also have to think of which accessories to match our outfits. Be it a colorful bracelet and a pair of earrings or a silver or gold necklace that has a curb chain. Even scarves and the bags should also compliment our style. As long as it blends with whatever style we prefer in that day, we definitely look even better with our accessories on.

I myself used to have little knowledge about how to mix and match my dresses and accessories. Just by watching fashion shows and variety shows on T.V. and reading some fashion magazines was I able to learn more about fashion. I also got ideas from fashionable friends and cousins like Lainy and Michelle.

Being fashionable isn't really about buying expensive and branded clothes. As long as you know how to match your outfit and feel confident and pretty about yourself. :D

Will Spend Time With Michelle and Jon

I haven't seen my cousin Michelle and her husband Jon for quite a while now. The last time we saw each other was during our vacation back in the province 2 months ago. They also live here in Manila but in a different city. I haven't visited them in their home yet. I'm too lazy having to deal with traffic on the way to their place. :D

The couple invited me to meet them at one of the hotels in Makati this weekend. I still doubt if I can come because I might be busy. There are Church activities that I have to attend to. But I'll try my best to come, though. Maybe in the evening. I'll sleepover at their suite. LOL! I also promised Michelle a massage. I might buy perdomo cigars online for Jon. I owe him a gift too, I guess. :D

I miss them both so I better see them this time. There were several invitations from them which I declined because of my work schedule. Perhaps it's time for me to bond with them again! See you both on Sunday! :D
